Recently, the short film Please Close Your Eyes After 10 PM, written and directed by Bo Hanxiong, officially commenced production. It is one of the Top 6 short film camp projects of the Young Coconut Project at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF), and is also a SDFZ poster support project and a Yingmu Culture visual effects support project.
The film focuses on a night market street corner in a small southern city, capturing the diverse aspects of everyday life. Characters such as tavern drinkers, elderly people enjoying the cool breeze, and urban runners appear one after another, turning the alley into a cross-section of the city where the old and the new intertwine, and human apathy overlaps with warmth.
Director and screenwriter Bo Hanxiong graduated from the Film Directing program at the University of California, Los Angeles, and his works have been selected for multiple important domestic and international film festivals. This time, he will employ keen social observation and avant-garde audiovisual language to craft this work full of experimental spirit.
The film adopts a one-take shooting method, combining precise coordination with improvisational creation to build a complete narrative ecosystem within a compressed space. The street corner serves as a stage, and through authentic and free interactions, the characters embark on an exploration of the boundary between reality and fiction.
The 7th HIIFF will be held in Sanya, Hainan Province in early December, and the Top 6 short films of the Young Coconut Project will have industry screenings during the festival. We look forward to Please Close Your Eyes After 10 PM possessing the infinite potential to break traditions and invigorate the short film format, ultimately achieving an expansion and interrogation of the cinematic language itself.
