Golden Coconut AwardsA Film Honor Rooted in Hainan Island
The Golden Coconut draws on a distinctive image of Hainan: the coconut palm grows toward the sun and opens to the wind, and gold stands for honor. Under this name, the Golden Coconut Awards pay tribute to filmmakers worldwide and, with an international jury, focus on original artistic expression in cinema.
Established at the 2nd HIIFF in 2019, the Golden Coconut Awards comprise three Competition Sections: Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film. Each section is judged by an independent jury, and the winners are announced at the festival's closing ceremony.
Three Competition Sections
Each section has its own independent jury
Feature Film
Starting from character, story and film language, the section focuses on narrative work and cultural experience from different regions.
Documentary
Focusing on real people, lives and environments, the section responds to reality through images and extends the range of nonfiction cinema.
Short Film
Within a limited running time, the section explores new possibilities of narrative form and film language.
Awards and Honors
The juries of the Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film sections make their own selections, and the winners are announced at the closing ceremony
