As the main driving force behind the supply and consumption of the film market, as well as the shaping of a society's film culture, genre films must constantly confront audiences' demanding and urgent needs for new content and new technologies. However, on the creative end, new creators, as a vital source of creativity, often hesitate due to high costs and risks, or are constrained by the inertia of the educational system, frequently finding it difficult to align their creative desires with the rules of the genre game.
Fortunately, in the domestic film market in recent years, a group of young directors and screenwriters has emerged, shining brightly in the field of genre film creation. They are well-versed in genre techniques, keenly understand audience demands, and effectively convey their creative will to the hearts of the audience. Behind this lies the collective support-boosting power of industry forces, including executive producers, investors, production teams, and marketing and distribution teams. These successful cases, like gems before us, serve to illuminate the path for those who follow, inspiring them to brave the winds and waves in the world of genre films.
As a positive response to these new trends and new vitality, the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) "Young Coconut Project" Feature Film Pitching Forum sets sail anew. Through three tracks: "Prism · Reality", "Vine · Emotion", and "Fantasy · Creation", we hope that creators will step into the spotlight with a clear sense of genre and market vision. From the opening of project submissions on July 14 to the deadline on September 15, 457 feature film projects converged, presenting to us a creative ecosystem with immense growth potential.
Subsequently, these projects will successively undergo stages including script review, project review, offline pitch presentation, project final review, offline final roadshow, and project negotiation. Ultimately, the shortlisted projects will have the opportunity to contend for official HIIFF honors, as well as the chance to receive resource support and technical assistance provided by industry partners. Key creatives will be granted priority participation in the festival's activities.
