The Closing Ceremony of the 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) Was Spectacular, Bringing the Cinematic Feast to a Successful Close

On the evening of December 10, the Closing Ceremony and Awards Ceremony of the 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) was held at Sanya Phoenix Island, co-hosted by China Movie Channel hosts Lan Yu, Ying Ling, and Yun Wei, alongside filmmakers Lin Xiaofeng and Zhang Xincheng.

That night, many renowned filmmakers took to the stage one after another to announce the winners of the Golden Coconut Awards at this year's festival. The Georgian film Holy Electricity won the Best Film of the Golden Coconut Awards. With its concise and profound narrative, unique perspective, and extraordinary appeal, this work deeply moved the audience's hearts. Its visual style cleverly integrates realism and formal aesthetics, vividly and delicately portraying the current living conditions and spiritual outlook of the Georgian people, presenting the audience with an authentic and flavorful portrait of Georgia.

The Serbian film 78 Days won the Jury Grand Prix of the Golden Coconut Awards. With the authentic and unadorned texture of a home video, the film closely intertwines war and daily life. Through an extremely restrained yet profoundly powerful emotional expression, it strikes the deepest chords of the audience, evoking strong resonance and allowing viewers to deeply feel the impact of war on life and humanity's struggles and perseverance within it.

Laetitia Dosch, director of the Swiss-French co-production Dog on Trial, successfully won Best Director of the Golden Coconut Awards. Using a uniquely humorous approach, she delves into the profound proposition of animals as equal individuals, breaking through the limitations of a purely feminist theme to bring the audience a viewing experience that is both thought-provoking and highly engaging, demonstrating extraordinary directorial talent and a unique creative perspective.

My Friend An Delie won two major awards: Best Chinese Language Contribution and Best Visual Effects of the Golden Coconut Awards. With its delicate emotional portrayal and strong cultural resonance, the film fully showcases the unique charm of Chinese-language cinema on the world stage. It not only makes innovative attempts in visual presentation and narrative techniques but also contributes significant strength to the internationalization process of Chinese-language cinema. Meanwhile, its masterful visual effects stunningly and vividly render a world where reality and illusion intertwine, adding unparalleled immersion to the film and successfully elevating the story's imagination to an entirely new height.

In the Peru-Chile co-production Through Rocks and Clouds, Alberth Merma won Best Actor of the Golden Coconut Awards for his delicate and sincere performance, vividly and expressively interpreting the unyielding resilience and pure innocence of the shepherd Feliciano when faced with threats to his home and dreams, delivering a moving portrayal.

In the India, France, US, and Norway co-production Girls Will Be Girls, Preeti Panigrahi won Best Actress of the Golden Coconut Awards with her natural, fluent, and emotionally genuine performance, perfectly portraying the complex emotions of her character's youth and bringing the role to life with vivid authenticity.

Screenwriters Ruth Becquart and Leonardo Van Dijl of the Belgian film Julie Keeps Quiet won Best Screenplay of the Golden Coconut Awards for their outstanding creative talent. With a seemingly simple narrative approach, the film deftly touches upon complex and profound contemporary social issues, successfully finding a perfect balance between depth and difficulty, and showcasing the screenwriters' masterful narrative skills and keen social insight.

The Chile, Argentina, and France co-production An Oscillating Shadow won Best Documentary of the Golden Coconut Awards. With immense creative courage, the film strives to construct a unique observational perspective on history, treating photographs as slices of history while subjectively virtualizing history into a personal, evidence-based narrative. It continuously creates alienation and integration between reality and history, bringing the audience a wonderfully unique viewing experience and a profound intellectual challenge, presenting an exceptionally rare and valuable creative expression.

The Philippines, US, and Singapore co-production Vox Humana won Best Short Film of the Golden Coconut Awards. Employing surrealist techniques, the film cleverly orchestrates a dialogue among humanity's past, present, and future. Through an ingenious narrative structure, it constructs a deeply meaningful proposition. The sounds of nature echoing in the human world are filled with will and mystery, presenting a precise and extraordinary poetic beauty.
