At the industry internal screening and post-screening Q&A session for the Young Coconut Project of the 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) on December 8, mentor, jury member, and Young Coconut Recommendation Officer Xiao Dingchen jointly witnessed the creative achievements of the young filmmakers and shared their profound insights and feelings. Jury member Liu Yanwenjun served as the host for this post-screening event.

Young actor Xiao Dingchen, as the Young Coconut Recommendation Officer, shared his thoughts on the viewing. He sincerely said, "Just now, from the perspective of an audience member, I watched these short films with vastly different styles, and each one made me feel the vibrant vitality of the young creators. They have demonstrated infinite potential with their unique perspectives and modes of expression. I sincerely hope that, if there is an opportunity in the future, I can collaborate with these talented young creators to jointly explore more possibilities of cinematic art and create more interesting works together."

Mentor Songtaijia, when commenting on the films, pointed out with a professional eye: "These works indeed have many shining points. From conceptualization to visual presentation, the dedication of the young directors is evident. However, there are also some regrets. For instance, I believe the selection and handling of some editing materials could be reconsidered to further enhance the quality of the films. I hope to have in-depth private conversations with the creators afterwards to jointly discuss how to make the works more perfect."

Mentor Li Xiaofeng spoke highly of the Young Coconut Project, emphasizing: "I must say, the Young Coconut Project has been truly bold this time, directly providing directors with funding to shoot short films. This approach offers young directors a truly precious opportunity to showcase themselves. Just like the short films we have seen, although they may still have room for improvement, this is undoubtedly an important step on their path of growth. I firmly believe that from this moment on, these young directors will continuously improve and get better and better in their future careers."

Mentor Nai'an stated: "While watching these short films, I deeply realized that the time given to the creators by the Young Coconut Project was indeed very tight. However, their performance within such limited time was truly outstanding. I believe this process will be immensely helpful for them in becoming professional directors and producers in the future. This is not just about completing a few short films; it is about accumulating valuable experience and laying a solid foundation for their future development."

Mentor Zhu Lin saw the talent and promise of the young directors in the films, and she encouraged them: "We often say that a film is a complex fusion of a director's talent, expression, and values. From the works of these young directors, I have seen many brilliant highlights and felt their love and dedication to cinema. You have successfully transformed text into vivid imagery, which is truly remarkable. I hope you can maintain this passion and move forward firmly on the path of filmmaking. You will surely create more outstanding and remarkable works in the future."

Jury member Liao Xi, while affirming the works, also shared his views: "From the text to the final filmed presentation, there were indeed many surprises. These young directors have demonstrated strong creative abilities, but it is undeniable that there are also some regrets. Some highly promising texts may not have been perfectly presented in the films due to constraints such as time. However, this is also part of the growth process. I hope the young directors will not be discouraged, continue to work hard, constantly explore the depth of their texts, and elevate their creative level."

Jury member Wu Lang highly appreciated the creators' efforts within the limited time, and he激励ed them: "To be honest, seeing these creators fully unleash their team's infinite imagination, integrate various resources, and ultimately present the short films successfully within such limited time, I am deeply impressed. I want to say that our creators should believe in their abilities and be more confident and bold in their creations. At the same time, as predecessors, we warmly welcome you to communicate and collaborate with us more. Whether it is about the creative ideas of the work itself or various problems you encounter, you can discuss them with us at any time. I believe that through such interactions, you will certainly create more excellent new works."

Jury member Li Fenghua affirmed the positive significance of the Young Coconut Project Pitching Camp, and she reflected: "All the mentors and directors say I am a representative of the industry and business. My original intention in participating in the Young Coconut Project Pitching Camp is actually because, from the perspective of the industry, the business, and the film market, there is a great need for new directors, key creatives, producers, and screenwriters to continuously emerge and grow. This is a very good thing for the development of our entire industry, so I came to participate in this event. I am particularly happy to see that among the many submitted projects, from an idea to the materials we saw later, and now to the phased results presented, I am happy for you and also feel a sense of accomplishment. I hope you keep up the good work, and I also hope that we will have more opportunities for collaboration in the near future."
During this event, the active participation and professional comments from various attendees provided valuable learning and growth opportunities for young filmmakers. The Young Coconut Project is not only a showcase platform but also a bridge connecting young creators with the film industry, inspiring them to continuously move forward on their path of filmmaking and injecting new vitality and hope into the development of the film industry.
