The 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) will be held from December 4 to 10, 2024, in Sanya, Hainan Province. The volunteer list is now announced, and we look forward to forming a sea of light chasers with you all in December.
During the 633 hours from 9:00 on October 15 to 18:00 on November 10, we received 1,592 responses to this call. The youngest applicant is 18 years old, while the oldest is 61, spanning an age range of 42 years. The applicants are predominantly young people, with students accounting for up to 76%. Over 80% of the volunteers were born after 2000, with the majority aged between 19 and 22. Despite their different backgrounds and ages, they share the same boundless love for cinema.
Like waves converging at the end to rush towards the island, the applicants hail from various regions. Geographically, Sanya, Hainan has the highest number of volunteer applicants, followed by Haikou, Hainan, bringing a strong home-field atmosphere to the locally hosted film festival. Among out-of-province volunteers, the number of applicants from Guangdong Province, which is adjacent to Hainan Island, is particularly prominent, and the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region also has a relatively high number of applicants. In addition, friends from overseas countries such as Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the United States, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Australia have also participated in this volunteer recruitment.
From waiting for the waves to chasing them, we saw applicants from various majors, covering multiple fields such as mathematics, languages, film and television, culture, philosophy, psychology, horticulture, and biotechnology. There are nearly 500 applicants from film and television-related majors, the highest in number. The continuously surging applications, like a sea pushing boundaries, inject new vitality and colors into the festival.
In terms of group preferences, the Guest Coordination Group and the Festival Execution Group were clearly more favored. In addition, we saw dozens of "old friends" who had participated in previous volunteer activities applying again. Shuttling between the glittering lights and bustling crowds, volunteers are the audience closest to the stage yet furthest from the spotlight. Regardless of the position, and whether old friends or new, we hope that volunteers are not just participants of HIIFF, but co-creators.

After careful consideration from multiple perspectives, 124 volunteers have finally passed the interviews and will join us in December to form a sea that belongs exclusively to HIIFF volunteers.
