The 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) will be held from December 4 to 10, 2024, in Sanya, Hainan Province. The "Young Coconut Project" Venture Training Camp is now recruiting Chinese-language creators, with a submission deadline of 24:00 on September 6, 2024. Registration is available via the HIIFF official website (www.hiiff.net) under "Film Industry - Young Coconut Project".
Filmmakers often endure long waits, accustomed to the delayed gratification of creation, while flashes of inspiration and meaningful narratives are fleeting. The Hainan Island International Film Festival hopes to awaken the story inspirations of young creators, leading them to a broader and more profound audiovisual world.
The 6th HIIFF will host the "Young Coconut Project" Venture Training Camp for the first time. As a core event of the film industry section, it supports young directors in shooting short films, providing young creators with the opportunity to start filming immediately. It helps the short film dreams of young filmmakers take solid root, accumulating energy for new forces in Chinese-language and even global cinema.
The overall activities of the "Young Coconut Project" Venture Training Camp encompass review and selection, roadshows, the shooting and production of selected projects, and screenings during the festival. Based on the shortlist from the short film project review, the festival will invite senior filmmakers as creative mentors and hold events such as mentor workshops and Hainan study and fieldwork tours. Through the final review, eight short film projects will be selected, each receiving 120,000 RMB in funding support and industry resources, ultimately bringing the eight short films to completion. The creative outcomes of the training camp will be continuously screened and discussed, and creators selected for the camp will receive festival honors and priority for participating in future festival events.
