VR films create a novel mode of human-computer interaction, allowing people to immerse themselves in a virtual realm. As viewers step into the film scenes, they can view the surrounding environment in 360 degrees. From 9:00 to 18:00, December 17 to 21, the 5th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) set up a VR film experience zone. This marks the first time HIIFF has introduced the VR concept, exploring new paths, researching new directions, and seeking new momentum for the development of talent in the film industry.

On the morning of December 17, the reporter visited the VR film experience zone of the 5th HIIFF, located in the pre-function hall of Danxia Room, Conference Building, Moutai Resort, Haitang Bay, Sanya, and saw that many audiences and guests were eagerly joining the experience queue. The site presented two 3DoF VR films, Secret in the Time Projection and Jax the Lamp Genie: Battle of the Contract, as well as two 6DoF VR films, Brown Bear's Surprise Party VR and Ling Cage VR. Through magnificent scene design and premium visual textures, these image works brought an unprecedented visual feast to the on-site audiences with exceptionally high production standards.
It is understood that DoF is the abbreviation for Degree of Freedom, which is a part of the VR positioning system, representing the way an object moves in three-dimensional space. 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) means that the player's head can perform rotational movements up and down, left and right, and forward and backward, while 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) adds the body's translational movements up and down, left and right, and forward and backward on this basis.
"This is my first time experiencing a VR film. Following the storyline of the male or female protagonist, I experienced the campus scene as if I were truly there, and also enjoyed the beautiful scenery and charm of Gulangyu in Xiamen." Wang Wenxuan, a student majoring in Broadcasting and Hosting at Sanya University, experienced on-site the first domestic youth romance VR film, Secret in the Time Projection. This work was previously selected for the XR Immersive Image Section of the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival, won the Gold V Award for Excellent VR Film of the Year, and received the Best VR Work Award at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival.
"The IP characters displayed on the screen are lifelike and very vivid; I felt like I was the protagonist inside too," said Wang Wenxuan after experiencing LINE FRIENDS' first Chinese VR work, Brown Bear's Surprise Party VR. This work is a 6DoF multi-person interactive narrative content suitable for all ages and supports simultaneous experience for 1 to 4 people.
