As the calendar turns to the final chapter of the year, the warmth of Hainan persists, and the light and shadow of cinema never cease. Among the 18 outstanding domestic and international films in the "Advance Screenings," we warmly embraced old friends in "Reunion on Screen," paid profound tribute to monumental achievements in "Classics of Cinema History," and experienced the narrative charm beyond imagination through "Genre Showcase." These films, like a prolonged and profound collective dream, have quietly etched countless moments of emotion, awe, and contemplation into the beginning of this winter.
Before the passion ignited by cinema fades, a new journey has already joyfully begun. The "Travel with Cinema" Global Classic Film Screening of the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) is about to officially enter its warmly extended second half—the "Extended Screenings" will take over from December 15, 2025, to January 3, 2026. By then, the two sections, "HIIFF Surprises" and "Vistas of Cinema," will arrive as scheduled, gathering 14 films from around the world that offer pioneering perspectives and profound resonance. Through diverse cultural expressions and artistic explorations, the light of cinema will transcend the New Year's bell, continuing to illuminate and warm the island's winter.
HIIFF Surprises Section: Passing the Torch, Reliving the Emotion
The memory of cinema never fades; it simply returns to us in new forms. This section carefully selects acclaimed masterpieces from the 7th HIIFF, bringing fresh perspectives to let the emotions and reflections that transcend time bloom once more. These works originate from different cultural contexts, yet they all point to the most tender coordinates deep within the human heart. In this section, every frame is like the waves of the island—continuing, echoing, and witnessing the imprints of our shared growth.
Vistas of Cinema Section: Focal Waves, Mirrors of the Era
If the era has a mirror, it is cinema. This section brings together five internationally acclaimed works from recent years. With transcendent perspectives and poetic visual language, they delve into the fabric of contemporary life, exploring the eternal issues of nature, humanity, and society. Like delicate brushstrokes, these works outline the subtle light deep within our emotions and the resonant zones of reality, recording the turbulence of contemporary hearts and the echoes of the world. With diverse aesthetic vocabularies and intellectual sharpness, these works construct a spiritual mirror that reflects us all.
