As of October 11, the 5th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) has received over a thousand submissions from 67 countries and regions, including France, Italy, Brazil, the United States, Germany, Argentina, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Among them are many highly anticipated works from the world's top film festivals, such as the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival.
The Golden Coconut Awards competition at this year's HIIFF is divided into three main categories: Feature Fiction, Feature Documentary, and Short Fiction. A total of 10 awards will be presented: Best Film, Best Director, Jury Grand Prix, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Technical Achievement, Best Children's Film, Best Documentary, and Best Short Film.
The deadline for competition submissions is 24:00 on October 15. The film submission channel is now open on the official HIIFF website (www.hiiff.net). The nominated films will be screened during the festival, and the winners will be announced and awarded at the Closing Ceremony and Awards Presentation.
While ensuring artistic quality, the film solicitation and selection process for this year's HIIFF will place greater emphasis on the popular and market value of the awards, aiming to build the Golden Coconut Awards with the distinctive characteristics of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
